As an expat, I wouldn't be surprised if you bought something online that could potentially have a lot more side effects than most of the ED treatments out there.
If you're unsure, feel free to ask. My experience with this was mixed. Some of the ED meds I've bought online may have side effects that I'm not aware of, which is why I decided to give it a try.
Regarding generic Viagra, it seems like it could be a good option if you're interested in buying it over-the-counter, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's not covered by your insurance.

I would also suggest considering purchasing other over-the-counter ED medications like Cialis (tadalafil), Stendra (Avanafil), and Stendra/Avanafil (avanafil). These are available over-the-counter without a prescription and are quite effective.
For my advice, I also went for the ED pills as they do have their own list of side effects, and that's where I came in. It really depends on your needs and experiences with the medication, but it's a great option for a general man who doesn't like to talk about his ED issues.
